Mysuru: Former Kuvempu University Vice-Chancellor Prof. P. Venkataramaiah said that language skills, apart from computer knowledge and subject expertise, holds key for an illustrious career.
He was speaking at a programme organised by the Competitive Exams Coaching Centre of KSOU at Cauvery Auditorium in Mukthagangotri campus here recently, for the release of a study book for Banking Competitive Exams.
Maintaining that there were many job opportunities in Banking and other sectors as well, Prof. Venkataramaiah observed that was lacking among us is the killer instinct to grab any opportunity that comes in our way.
Noting that many of us were hesitant to learn other languages, the former VC opined that this hesitancy among us has led to many North Indian candidates finding place in Banks here.
He stressed on the need for acquiring language skills apart from learning other languages.
Canara Bank General Manager (retd.) Dr. S.T. Ramachandra in his address, regretted that Kannadiga youths were turning away from bank jobs and this had led to banking jobs going the way of non-Kannadigas.
Asserting that banking provides ample opportunities for a better life in terms of wages, job security and benefits, Dr. Ramachandra wondered whether there was job security in the IT/BT sector, with most youths of today yearning for better paid jobs in the IT/BT front.
KSOU VC Prof. S. Vidyashankar, Registrar Prof. B. Ramesh, Centre Co-ordinator Jainahalli Sathyanarayana Gowda, KSOU Psychology Department faculty Dr. P. Manjunath and others were present.
