Mysuru: Well-known playback singer Vidu. H.G. Chaitra (in pic.) will be presenting a devotional music concert at the Mysuru branch of Suttur Mutt at the foot of Chamundi Hill on June 9 at 6 pm, as part of the Mutt’s monthly moonlight music programme-188.
She will be accompanied by Pt. Umakant Puranik on harmonium and Pt. H.S. Gopinath on tabla.
Suttur Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji will grace the occasion.
Profile: Having come from a family with musical background, Chaitra has made a mark in both Hindustani classical music and playback singing. Daughter of H.S. Gopinath (a tabla player), she learnt Hindustani classical music under Dr. Nagaraja Rao Havaldar and is currently learning the nuances of music under Pt. K.V. Nandakumar.
So far Chaitra has given over 500 Hindustani music concerts and has lent her voice for over 600 film songs including Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and other languages. She has also performed abroad including America, Dubai and Kuwait.
She has many awards to her credit — Best Playback Singer award given by Karnataka State Government, Rotary Young Achievers Award, Rotary Sirigandha Award, Swarakala Gowrava Award and Udaya TV Kutumba Prashasti to name a few. She has also been among the jury for ‘Confidence Star Singer’, ‘Paripurna Mahile’, ‘Sarigamapa’ and other TV shows.
Chaitra holds a Bachelor of Engineering, specialised in Information Science and Engineering. She is skilled at Gymnastics and Fencing, at which she has been a State-level champion for three years. She has represented Karnataka, at the National level, in more than 20 competitions and has won gold medals in both sports.
