Mysuru: ‘Dhwani Kotta Dhani’ Award were conferred on five persons at a programme organised by Ursu Jagruthi Academy as part of Kannada Rajyotsava at the Institution of Engineers-India (IEI) on JLB Road here Sunday.
The awardees were Scientific Vastu expert D. Sathish Chauhan, columnist K.P. Lakshmikantha Raje Urs of Tumakuru, Dalit leader Yedathore Ningaraj, singer K. Suma Urs and Karnataka Senapade District President Tejas Lokesh Gowda.
University of Mysore (UoM) Social Work Department faculty Prof. Y.S. Siddegowda released a translated work titled ‘Prapatha,’ authored by retired IAS Officer Jayarama Raje Urs on the occasion.
Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission Chairman H. Kantharaj, speaking after inaugurating the programme, said that the student community should update their knowledge by reading books.
Observing that reading only to prepare for exams will not be of much help in enriching knowledge, Kantharaj said that reading a variety of books will help in changing the society.
Pointing out that translated works will be of great help in understanding the life of other cultures and communities, he noted that ‘Prapatha’ book explains how we will be lost in the ravines if we fail to realise the values of life.
MyLAC Chairman H.A. Venkatesh, Dasti Educational Institutions President Dr. D. Thimmaiah, Sandhya Suraksha Trust President B.R. Nataraj Jois, MCCI President A.S. Satish, the book author Jayarama Raje Urs, Ursu Jagaruthi Academy Hon. President Dr. M.G.R. Urs and others were present.
