Digitalise house tax payment

May 11, 2019

Sir,

I have been paying my house tax every year since last 10 years. Paying house tax is a highly cumbersome and tiresome process in Mysuru. Two pages of Form, a FOUR part challan, waiting in the queue for hours at the mercy of the “writer/RI” of the MCC, paying him/her Rs.50 for filling in the Form etc.  (The fee varies according to locality. People from posh localities have to shell out more. Even door service is available  for higher payment).

For a job that can be completed  within a minute or half, citizens of Mysuru have to wait in long queues for being honest and doing their duty promptly. Unfortunately they are doing this with no grumbling or complaining since decades.

Mysureans, either being extremely rich or illiterate entirely depend on the writers/bill collectors for this petty job.  Added to all these, if the RI of a particular ward goes on leave, MCC never bothers to entrust  the job to another person in order to avoid trouble and inconvenience to the tax payer.  Coming to Corporators, they are least bothered about this.

The irony is that MCC and MUDA promptly replaces footpath slabs at least every 2 years. Perhaps because there is so much scope for so many things. But the footpath is never used by pedestrians because it is totally encroached by the shop-owners, street-side vendors and others.

Whatever it may be, I urge upon the authorities concerned to digitalise the process of property tax payment at least by next year, that is, 2020-2021. Have mercy on seniors, disabled people and other common citizens and make the payment process super-fast so that they can do it at their leisure from the computer keyboard on their table or Mobile in their hands. BBMP has done it, CHESCom, BSNL have done it.  Why can’t MCC and MUDA?
