This refers to the news item titled “Heritage Arch Gate of Government Guest House is tottering, Wake up MCC” in Star of Mysore dated June 15. I commend SOM for directly approaching the Ward 27 Corporator. Where is the so-called Heritage Committee that only makes a show of its concern for heritage structure when the structure collapses? This Committee must be disbanded and qualified people who are not political and have a genuine desire to ensure Mysuru retain its heritage status and is clean and well-managed, be appointed.

I often see the Mysuru City Corporation Instagram page flooded with photos of our Commissioner’s daily visits to various localities. But no results of the visits are known.

We as tax-payers must ensure that the people whose salaries are paid by tax-payers do what they are appointed to do and not just enjoy photo ops.

NOTE: NGO’s intention to protect heritage structures like the Arch Gate is commendable, but sadly they do not look at the structure after the authorities yield to NGO’s demand. As a result, the structure will collapse sooner or later after remaining for a few years as an eyesore.—Ed
