Sir,
The present government proposes to build a Disney Park at KRS and the Tourism Minister has told the media that they are hell bent on this proposal. This raises a lot of questions:
- Is this government not concerned about public opinion? They should discuss the pros and cons with all the stakeholders.
- This is the public money they are spending, so each one of us have a say in the matter.
- The main point is that the land around KRS is very fertile and the farmers do not want to part with it. We have seen what happened in the past when farmers’ lands were snatched away and till today they live in penury.
- Is it that the coalition government only came up with this idea post the Sardar Patel statue unveiling at Gujarat?
- Farmers, cane growers, onion growers, fisherman and even others from the arid districts are demanding higher support prices. Instead of resolving it, we now have been hearing about the fertile lands being taken away for this project. This does not augur well for the people and the State.
- Also, the world over, in the US, Paris and many other countries, Disney Parks are never built close to heritage structures. They are all located at far off places, almost outside the city. So why do we want to build it just next to the most glorious Brindavan Gardens in KRS?
- Last but not the least, the citizens must stand by the farmers or a day will come when we have all the Disneylands but no food to eat. At the way lands are looted by governments for parks or for other corrupt motives, the citizenry must take a call, debate and then let the government take a decision.
