Mysuru: The two-day District Annual Sports Meet for Home Guards, organised by District Home Guards, concluded at Mysore University Sports Pavilion here yesterday. The event featured 100 mts. and 800 mts. run, 4x100mts. relay, long-jump, high-jump, shot-put, kabaddi, volleyball and tug-of-war for men. For women, it included 100mts. and 400mts. run, 4x100mts. relay and tug-of-war.
Over 50 Home Guards from nine units in the district participated in the event. About 35 Home Guards will be selected for the Regional Sports Meet to be held from Dec. 17 to 19 at Channarayapatna Taluk Sports Grounds in Hassan District.
The valedictory was held at Fire Brigade Parade Ground in Saraswathipuram here yesterday.
Speaking on the occasion, Additional SP and Commandant, District Home Guards N. Rudramuni opined that participation was more important than the result in any sports event. He added that people who want to take up sports as a profession should have excellent training and knowledge about the sport.
He regretted that though the District Home Guards strength was 1,300, only 50 had taken part in the Sports Meet.
He assured to motivate the Home Guards to develop interest in sports. He said that effort would be made to organise a get-together of Home Guards and their family members.
Prizes were distributed to winners during the valedictory.
