District Police Sports Meet begins

Mysore/Mysuru: Three-day Mysuru District Police Sports Meet began at DAR Grounds in Jyothinagar here this morning. The sports meet was inaugurated by world cup-winning Indian women’s kho kho team player B. Chaithra.

Speaking on the occasion, Chaithra lauded the Police for maintaining law and order situation stating that if soldiers ensured the safety of our borders, Police were providing security within the country. “It is because of the Police presence that girls like me are able to move around safely,” she added.

Chaithra also took the opportunity to request the Police Department to consider kho kho also under the sports quota during the recruitment process. Stating that 4-5 players from Kuruburu, her native town, who had played at national level were working for Postal Department and Railways under the sports quota, Chaithra requested the Police Department to also consider kho kho during the recruitment process.

Various track and field events, including 100 mts sprint, 200 mts sprint, 400 mts run, shot put, long jump, high jump, tug-of-war among others, will be held during the three-day event.

SP N. Vishnuvardhana, CESC (Vigilance) SP Savitha Hugar, Additional SP C. Mallick and others were present on the occasion.

Earlier, the participating Police personnel took part in the march-past. Sports torch was also handed over by B. Chaithra to one of the Police personnel marking the commencement of the sports meet.
