The three-day sports meet for District Police, organised by Mysuru District Police at the District Armed Reserve (DAR) Police Parade Grounds at Jyothinagar here, concluded yesterday evening.
The District Armed Reserve Police team, which had garnered most points by winning prizes in various sports events, bagged the overall team championship trophy. While Raghunandan of DAR bagged the individual award in the men’s category, K. Ashwini of Bannur Police Station bagged the award in the women’s category.
In the fancy dress competition organised for the children of Police staff, the children dressed as astronaut Kalpana Chawla, Army and Air Force Officers grabbed the attention of all.
Delivering the valedictory address after distributing prizes to the winners, IGP (Southern Range) Pravin Madhukar Pawar said that the most important thing in one’s life is health no matter how rich or poor one may be. “No matter how big our post may be, we cannot enjoy it without good health,” he added.
Pointing out that sports, academics and food is very important in life, the IGP said COVID has taught us that along with education, good health and nutritious food, physical activities were very important for one to come up in life.
“Such sports meet helps in beating stress and pressure. No matter how busy we are, we should at least spend one hour in physical activity and engaging in sports is very beneficial for us as we continuously work throughout the year. Sports help us to prepare ourselves to be active in our work,” IGP Pravin Madhukar Pawar said.
Lauding the Police personnel for doing excellent work during the outbreak of pandemic, the IGP said that it is the responsibility of every Police staff to take care of the law and order situation in the district in an excellent way besides asking them to give more publicity to 112 Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) vehicle and reach the spot as soon as possible to solve any issues that could disturb peace and harmony in the society.
Pointing out that 112 ERSS helpline number was working excellently as atrocities on women and children were being stopped through the helpline number which was getting good response, the IGP said that about 35 to 40 calls were being received on an average daily.
Superintendent of Police (SP) R. Chethan, Additional SP Shivakumar, Officers of all divisions of District Police were present.
