Sir,
It is an everyday affair for me when I start driving to my workplace, passing through Ring Road, Teresian College, Nazarbad Police Chowk to Sayyaji Rao Road.
Enroute I find so many traffic violations whether at traffic signal lights at Teresian College or one-way from Nazarbad Police Station Circle to Sandesh Hotel or the K.T. Street. It will be very scary to drive from home to office.
It always haunts me why should I follow the traffic rules. But I know, I don’t have the guts to break rules. If people like me breach rules a day, we will end up paying fine. Because we don’t know how to escape from the Traffic Police by fleeing from the scene or we don’t have contacts of influential people to get away from Police.
Nowadays, it has become very difficult for people like me to drive on the right path also as there is always a possibility of wrong people driving on the wrong side.
But the sad thing is that the authority which has to ensure this are more busy in catching hold of helmet-less riders. I think I should emphasise here that wearing no helmet may result in injury to the individual but careless driving, crossing traffic signals, rash driving and the latest style of driving while speaking on phone is more dangerous to other motorists too.
Can we do something to root out this problem? I think the Traffic Police and other authorities may deploy volunteers to implement this area-wise with the support of media.
Finally, if we can’t improve on this, then we should not have any traffic rules at all — no traffic lights, no one-ways, no zebra crossings!
