Documentary on Samaveda and Music

Mysore/Mysuru: Kalpa Heritage Trust, Mysuru, has produced a Documentary on ‘Samaveda Sangita’ to explore the relationship between chanting of Sama Veda Shlokas and Indian Classical Music. 

Vid. Majunatha Shrauti, an accomplished Samaveda Pandit, Vidu. Sukanya Prabhakar, well-known Karnatak musician and Vidu. Srimathi Devi, an upcoming Hindustani musician, have contributed their depth of knowledge in making this educative documentary. Shloka chanting, rendering of music of both styles are featured along with students of the maestros.

The documentary is in five parts of varying durations:

Part 1: Parichaya – Introduction; Part 2: Sangita Sagara – Detailed history of Karnatak Music; Part 3: Vedadhyayana – Samaveda history and chanting of shlokas; Part 4: Sammilana – Discussion of the relationship between Samaveda and Classical music; Part 5: Dvayamadhurya – Comparison of Karnatak and Hindustani styles of music.
