Mysuru: In a heart rending incident, a 24-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide along with her two-year-old child by setting herself and her child ablaze at Mahadevapura here late last night.
The deceased have been identified as Gowramma, a native of K.R. Pet taluk and her child Nihal.
Gowramma of Somanahalli in K.R. Pet, had got married to one Lohith, a teacher by profession and a native of Dadadahalli near Saligrama in K.R. Nagar, three years ago. But after marriage, Gowramma’s in-laws are said to have harassed her for dowry, following which her parents had bought her a house for Rs.18 lakh, it is learnt.
Still, her in-laws continued to harass her for more dowry. Unable to bear the harassment any more, Gowramma is said to have locked herself along with her child in a room of the house and ended her life by setting herself and her child ablaze. The incident came to light when Gowramma’s brother in-law came to the house early this morning, it is learnt.
The jurisdictional Vidyaranyapuram Police, who have registered a case in this regard, are investigating.
