Dr. Arkalgud Neelakanta Murthy’s three works released

October 30, 2024

Mysuru: Regretting that the medical profession is getting more and more commercialised in the recent days, MLC Dr. D. Thimmaiah said, however, there is a ray of hope as some medical professionals with human values, are rendering service to the society.

He was speaking after releasing Dr. Arkalgud Neelakanta Murthy’s three works — ‘Samayada Neeru Matte Hariyuva Hottu’, ‘Hennobbalu Garbhakoshagaleradu’ and ‘Mukhadindeddu Yettalo Nadeda Kannu’ — at a programme organised under the joint aegis of Ursu Jagruti Academy Charitable Trust, Mysuru and Vaidyavartha Prakashana, Mysuru, at the Institution of Engineers-India (IEI) on JLB Road here recently.

Observing that the human anatomy is really mysterious, Dr. Thimmaiah said that, the anatomy of women is more complex in nature when compared to men. “The book’s author has written about a rare phenomenon of two uterus (or womb) in a woman. There should be more research on this phenomenon,” he said adding that the medical profession, being the noblest profession since ages, should remain the same forever.

Mysore Medical College retired Professor Dr. J. Prasannakumar, who spoke about the books, said that the books explain about complex medical conditions in a simple and lucid manner. Pointing out that double uterus is a birth defect which can be seen only in 0.3 percent of women, he said that the author has written about the symptoms and diagnosis of this defect in a most interesting manner. This will enhance the knowledge of the readers as well as the doctors, Dr. Prasannakumar added.

He further said that Dr. Neelakanta Murthy, who had worked for 13 years in Somalia in the 1970s, has penned down his experiences of working there in his earlier work ‘Kaggataleya Khandadalli.’
