Dr. N.S. Mahendrakar (72), a retired senior scientist from CFTRI and a resident of CFTRI Layout, passed away in the wee hours of yesterday at a Government Hospital in city following brief illness.

He leaves behind his wife, one son, one daughter, grandchildren and host of relatives and friends.

Born in Guledgudd town of Bagalkot District, Dr. Mahendrakar obtained his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Chemistry from Karnataka University Dharwad and Ph.D in Food Science from University of Mysore.

Dr. Mahendrakar joined CFTRI in Mysuru in 1974 and served for more than 35 years. He retired as the Head of the Department of Animal Products in the cadre of Deputy Director. He was a diligent scientist and an active member of Association of Food Scientists and Technologists and also served as the Editor of the Journal of Food Science and Technology.

He also served as a visiting faculty of Food Science and Technology at a few Universities.
