Mysore/Mysuru: Dr. Nairuthya Shivathirthan, Chief GI and HPB Surgeon, Apollo BGS Hospitals, Mysuru, presented a pioneering surgical technique at the 5th International Congress of the American College of Surgeons (UAE Chapter) that took place on Sept. 12 and 13 at the Raffles Hotel in Dubai.
Dr. Nairuthya delivered a presentation on “Single-Stage Double By-pass in Chronic Calcific Pancreatitis with Portal Biliopathy with Biliary Stricture in a Non-Shutable Anatomy” under the Hepato Biliary Surgery session.
This innovative procedure introduces a single-stage surgical strategy for complex cases of chronic calcific pancreatitis complicated by portal biliopathy and biliary stricture — conditions that typically pose significant surgical challenges.
By innovating a double by-pass approach in a non-shutable anatomy, Dr. Nairuthya informed that it aims to improve surgical outcomes, reduce complications and provide a new treatment pathway for patients previously considered difficult to treat.
The ACS 2025 UAE Chapter Congress in Dubai served as a global platform for surgeons to share cutting-edge innovations, foster collaborations and advance surgical science for better patient care worldwide.
