Driving Licence renewal: Suggestions to RTO Mysuru West

December 1, 2021

Sir,

As my Driving Licence (DL) was expiring, I submitted the application online (https://sarathi.parivahan.gov.in/).

Uploading the application, photo, signature, medical certificate and payment of the necessary fees was entirely online. I also could book a slot for 18.11.2021.

When I went to RTO Mysuru West Office, there was again a photo and signature taking plus fees payment for licence smart card. After this I submitted the forms. I was getting updates on my mobile as it passed through different stages of the process.

Today when I checked in mParivahan app, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the renewed licence was already visible in less than 2 weeks.

I still have to receive the physical DL card but I am happy to see that the process is quite streamlined. Kudos to people involved at RTO Mysuru West!

I have a couple of suggestions which if considered can make it even better: Since the application and other forms have been submitted online, is there a need to take physical printouts and submit them once more at the RTO? I feel this paperwork which also takes up space at the RTO is unnecessary since digitally all documentation is getting stored.

Also since the photo and signature have already been uploaded, why go through the process again at the RTO? One of the two steps can be removed to avoid duplication effort and time. Provision should be made to pay the smart card fees also online.

The numbering of rooms and counters at the RTO building are a bit confusing for someone who goes there rarely. One can get confused between Room 1 and Counter 1 for example.

I had to go up and down a couple of times. Instead the Rooms can be numbered R-1, R-2 and so on while counters are C-1, C-2 to clearly distinguish the two. Hope the authorities concerned will consider my suggestion.
