DRS to review Dasara wrestling decisions

Pairing of wrestlers for this year’s competition scheduled for Oct. 4

Mysuru: For the first time, the Dasara Wrestling Competition will feature a Decision Review System (DRS), similar to the system used in cricket.

In cricket, the DRS enables on-field umpires to consult the third umpire while making decisions and players can also request a review to challenge anon-field decision.

This year, the Dasara Wrestling Sub-Committee will introduce a similar referral system during the bouts to resolve disputes over umpires’ decisions.

“Dasara Wrestling Competition is being updated every year. Wrestlers from various parts of the State come to Mysuru to take part in the prestigious competition with a high competitive spirit and the desire to win. This year, we are introducing a referral system to resolve any disputes over the umpires’ decisions on the spot,” said Dasara Wrestling Sub-Committee DeputySpecial Officer and Additional SP L. Nagesh.

He said the decision to introduce DRS followed a few incidents reported during wrestling bouts last year and in previous years.

Nagesh also said the pairing of wrestlers for this year’s competition would be held on Oct. 4.

The Sub-Committee will form an expert panel to review video footage if a wrestler challenges an umpire’s decision. The panel will conduct a detailed review before announcing its decision.
