Mysore/Mysuru: The Dalit Sangharsha Samithi (DSS) staged a protest on Saturday against the Central Government’s decision to cancel the student scholarship for pre-matric students of SC/ST, Backward Classes and Minority communities.
The activists assembled in front of the statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar near Town Hall and demanded that the order of cancelling the student scholarship be withdrawn immediately and urged the Government to increase the scholarship amount.
“Governments have been giving scholarships for students to enable them to purchase books and other materials needed to pursue their education. But now the Union Government has all of a sudden cancelled the scholarships of those who are studying in classes from 1 to 8 which needs to be condemned by everybody,” said the protestors.
Alleging that the present BJP Government which came to power in 2014 under Narendra Modi is conspiring to deny education to students of weaker sections and drive them back to slavery, the protestors cited the example of closure of Government Schools and encouraging private educational institutions as a proof of their allegation.
Even the State BJP Government is also twisting progressive thinking in the name of revision of syllabus. Both Union and State Governments are saffronising the education, they complained.
Dalit Sangharsha Samithi leaders Choranahalli Shivanna, K.V. Devendra, Harohalli Nataraju, leaders Ugranarasimhegowda, Bilikere Devaraju, Dyavappa Nayaka and other participated in the protest.
