Undertrial from Madikeri Jail dies at K.R. Hospital

Mysuru/ Gonikoppa: An undertrial from Madikeri Jail, who was admitted to K.R. Hospital in city, has passed away yesterday.

The deceased is Subramanya alias Patta (23), a resident of Gonikoppa in Kodagu, who was serving as a cleaning staff at Gonikoppa Gram Panchayat (GP) and was lodged in Madikeri Jail in a case about               8 months back.

Subramanya, who fell sick at Madikeri Jail, was admitted to K.R. Hospital in Mysuru on Monday, but he breathed his last yesterday morning, Police said.

Post-mortem was conducted at MMC&RI mortuary and the body was handed over to his family members.

Meanwhile, Subramanya’s relatives have accused the Police of assaulting him which led to his death.

They said that the Police told them that Subramanya was suffering from kidney problems and when they took him to Madikeri Hospital, the doctors advised them to shift him to K.R. Hospital in Mysuru and hence they (Police) admitted him to K.R. Hospital. But when the Police brought Subramanya to the Court last time, he was healthy, how can his health deteriorate due to kidney problems so much in a month, they questioned and added that the Police could have informed us when they were shifting him to Mysuru.

Stating that a thorough probe should be conducted into his death, D.R. Raju of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Adi Dravida Pourakarmikara Abhivriddhi Sangha said that they would lodge a complaint with Human Rights Commission and added that they would stage a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Mysuru.
