Mysuru: A day-long State Executive meet of Karnataka State Education Officers Association (KSEOA) and Mysuru-Division level Annual General Body (AGM) meeting began at Swami Vivekananda auditorium in Mahajana College premises, Jayalakshmipuram here, yesterday.
Speaking after inaugurating the meet, Johara Zabeen, Director, Directorate of Minorities Education, Department of Public Instruction, said that she was happy to note that the Association has become active again after a gap of several years.
Underlining the role of teachers in shaping the future of children, she said that the need of the hour was imparting quality education to our children that can match international standards.
Referring to Primary Secondary Education Minister M. Mahesh’s recent statement on introducing open book system in primary education, Zabeen said that the issue was a complex one which needs a thorough evaluation.
Explaining the practicalities involved in the introduction of the open-book system, she said that officials will have to visit all those countries that follow the open book system to have a detailed understanding of it.
She called upon the schools to conduct workshops that benefit the children in their academics.
On the occasion, a monetary assistance of Rs.15,000 was extended to Dhanushri, a first standard student at a school in Kagepura of Malavalli taluk, whose father, a farmer, committed suicide recently.
Also, a water filter was donated to Government Higher Primary School at Bogapura Haadi in H.D. Kote taluk and 10 Government Schools of the district, which recorded 100 percent results in SSLC (2017-18) were distributed prizes.
Association President K.G. Anjanappa, office-bearers Pankaja, Rajkumar, M. Raju and others were present.
Hundreds of teachers from across the State and Mysuru Division comprising eight districts are taking part in this meet, which concludes later this evening.
