Wary of losing business following MDA’s diktat to vacate shops by March first week: Merchants Assn.

Mysore/Mysuru: Following the decision of Mysuru Development Authority (MDA) to evict the tenants of Duplin Complex near Chikkagadiyara in city, the Duplin Complex Merchants Association is wary over suffering a dent in their business.

Addressing media persons at the Complex premises here recently, Association President Girish said, after the statement issued by MDA Commissioner K.R. Rakshith to take the Complex into their possession, the mounting fear and confusion has pushed the traders into a fix.

“We have lost peace as the prevailing situation may have a cascading effect on trader and distributors relationship. The Complex is formed of grocery stores, medical stores etc. The distributors were lending the goods and collecting the amount only later. Now, the distributors are hesitant to supply, fearing that, if MDA vacates shops by March first week, they may end up losing substantial amount of money owed by the traders. The impact on transaction is being felt for one week,” he rued.

He also clarified that no traders will move Court, with an appeal against the latest High Court order that has come out in favour of MDA. ‘We have ownership of shops and hence the decision of MDA is not a binding on us,’ claimed Girish.

Seeking clarity over MDA’s decision, the traders had gone to meet MDA Commissioner, but the latter’s Personal Assistant, directed them towards MDA Secretary Johnson. However, the Secretary passed the buck on Commissioner, keeping the confusion among traders alive.

Girish demanded that the MDA Commissioner should clarify in the interest of traders, who continue to be in a state of muddle.
