Echo of Advocates’ protest: Nazarbad SI Yellalinga suspended

Mysuru: Bowing to pressure from the Advocates, who were protesting since Jan.22 by boycotting Court proceedings, City Police Commissioner Dr. A. Subrahmanyeswara Rao has suspended Nazarbad Sub-Inspector (SI) Yellalinga.

An order in this regard was issued by the Police Chief this morning as the Advocates continued their protest today also demanding suspension of the SI for allegedly assaulting Advocate Gokul Govardhan, who is also the President of BJP Youth Wing, on Jan.21. The SI had allegedly assaulted Gokul when the latter had gone to the Police Station on Jan.21 to lodge a complaint in connection with the illegal activities going on in a Government School. Following the incident, city Advocates, under the banner of Mysuru Bar Association, had boycotted Court proceedings from Jan.22.

Meanwhile, some office-bearers of the Mysuru Bar Association had left for Bengaluru this morning to meet higher Police authorities and petition them on the demand for the SI’s suspension. They were also scheduled to meet State Bar Council office-bearers to chalk out the future course of action if their demand was not met.

Following the series of protests, SI Yellalinga was transferred from Nazarbad Police Station to V.V. Puram Police Station in city but the members of the Bar Association, who were persistent with their demand, had abstained from Court proceedings  to intensify their stir, with support from Bar Associations of other districts and the State Bar Council.
