Mysore/Mysuru: The English version of the book ‘Jeevana Yana – When The Universe Sends People’, originally authored in Kannada by artist Dr. Jamunarani V. Mirle, was released at a programme organised by Mysore Art Gallery at Bhagini Seva Samaja in Krishnamurthypuram on May 23.
The book has been translated into English by the author’s daughter, L.N. Varshini, a marketing professional. Former University of Mysore Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.S. Rangappa released the book.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Rangappa cautioned that neglecting intellectuals could lead to the downfall of the nation. He said India possesses one of the world’s richest cultures and immense intellectual potential.
“If such talent is properly encouraged, the country can progress further,” he observed. Stressing the importance of education, he said society should give greater importance to nurturing scientists and scholars rather than politicians.
Presiding over the event, writer Prof. C. Naganna noted that many engineers are increasingly drawn towards literature, fine arts and the humanities. Pointing to translator Varshini as an example, he said she is both an engineer and a digital marketing expert.
Prof. Naganna said the book highlights the distinctive qualities of personalities from different walks of life and offers valuable lessons for readers.
Journalist Amshi Prasanna Kumar was the guest of honour along with BSS Vidyodaya Secretary R. Vasudev Bhat. Sadvidya Institutions Managing Committee Member Dr. Nalini Chandar spoke about the book. Artist & Mysore Art Gallery Founder L. Shivalingappa welcomed. Dhananjaya compered the programme. Mariswamy rendered the invocation.
