Mysuru: Procession, speeches and illumination of Masjids marked the celebrations of Eid Meelad Un-Nabi, the birthday of Prophet Mohammed in city yesterday.
A procession consisting of tableaux was taken out from Masjid-e-Azam on Ashoka Road which passed through Meena Bazaar, Sawday Road, Dr. Zakir Hussain Circle, Masjid-e-Eidgah Road, Pullikeshi Road and culminated at Masjid-e-Azam.
A grand function was organised at Meelad Bagh on Ashoka Road in the evening which was attended by Minister Tanveer Sait who is also the President of the Central Meelad Committee. Sir Khazi of Mysuru Hazarath Moulana Mohamed Usman Shariff presided.
The Function began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by Moulana Hafiz Aejaz Ahmed of Khateeb and Imam, Masjid-e-Mubeen followed by Naath-e-Shariff by Moulana Qari Umar Farooq. Abdul Azeez Chand, Vice-President, Central Meelad Committee welcomed the chief guest, Ulemas and the gathering. Hazarath Moulana Syed Shahabuddin, Hazarath Moulana Mohamed Jaffer and Hazarath Moulana Mohamed Zaka Ulla Siddiqi, President, All India Milli Council, Mysore District Unit spoke on the teachings and life of Prophet Mohamed.
Tajammul Tanveer, Member, Mandya District Waqf Advisory Committee and member of Jmaath Islami Hind spoke in Kannada about the teachings and life of Prophet Mohamed S. Moinuddin Pasha, Secretary, Central Meelad Committee proposed vote of thanks.
Meelad Sports and Welfare Council distributed prizes to the winners of various games organised on the occasion of Eid Meelad. MLA Vasu presented Late Syed Yousuf Memorial Trophy to Masjid-e-Aqsa Meelad Committee.
Syed Abbas, Managing Director and Zakir Khan, Proprietor of P.K. Plastics Industries, Congress Leader Shoukath Ali Khan, Social Worker Syed Umar and Moulana Abdul Salam were present on the dais.
