Mysuru: Maj. Gen. S. G. Vombatkere (retd.) said that he was happy to see the NCC in its present form and complimented the organisation for playing a major role in moulding the Cadets and giving them a range of experiences in camps and adventure activities that were limited during early years.
Maj. Vombatkere, who was a Cadet himself in the 1960s and participated in the Republic Day Parade from Karnataka, was speaking at the 69th NCC Day held at Kalamandira here recently.

“The importance of the motto of unity and discipline must not be there only in the Cadets but in the society as a whole to bring the nation together,” he said.
The Group Commander of the Mysuru Group Col. M.K. Beliappa said, “The National Cadet Corps came into existence on 16 July 1948. The NCC Gp at Mysuru was raised in the year 1963 by Lt. Col. C.T. Madappa. The motto of the organisation is ‘Unity and Discipline’ and that the role of the NCC is to mould the cadets into disciplined and responsible citizens of our country.”
He said that in response to an evolving environment, the NCC’s initial military orientation has been augmented by including aspects of social service and adventure training.
The event was attended by a number of retired senior Army, Navy and Air Force Officers who have served with NCC as also Associate NCC Officers, Heads of institutions which have NCC and Cadets of the Army, Air Force and Navy wing of the NCC, and civilian staff of the Group, according to Training Officer Lt. Col. M.S. Ravindranath.
