Eight arrested for indulging in cricket betting

Rs. 9,810 cash, 8 mobile phones,  5 two-wheelers seized

Mysore/Mysuru: Vidyaranyapuram Police have arrested eight persons on charges of indulging in IPL Cricket betting by creating WhatsApp group and have seized Rs. 9,810 cash, eight mobile phones and five two-wheelers from them.

The arrested are 21-year-old Guruprasad of Hanur in Chamarajanagar, 18-year-old Arun, 23-year-old Gajendra and 21-year-old Krishna of Mahadevapura, 21-year-old Pavan of J.P. Nagar, 21-year-old Vinod Raj and 20-year-old Vinod of Gejjagalli and 22-year-old Mohan of Ramabainagar. All the arrested are employees of various factories and labourers.

During the cricket match between Punjab and Mumbai on Thursday, a few youths were indulging in betting through the WhatsApp group behind a tea stall at J.P. Nagar last bus stop. Acting on a tip off, Vidyaranyapuram Police raided the spot and arrested them.

A case has been registered at Vidyaranyapuram Police Station. DCP Dr. A.N. Prakash Gowda and ACP Shashidhar supervised Inspector Manjunath, Head Constable Manjunath and staff Ravi, Sunil, Ramesh and Narayan who took part in the raid, nabbing and seizing operation.
