Hunsur: Dejected in life, an elderly couple has allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide at an agricultural field in Arabithittu Mini Forest area near Hunsur-Mysuru Highway recently.
Malleshappa (70) and his wife Shivalingamma (60) are the deceased couple, who were the residents of Hosapura, Bilikere hobli, Hunsur taluk. They neither had a house of their own nor agricultural field. Hence they were residing with a relative, it is said.
The couple had taken debt from many in the village and was unable to pay them back. On Tuesday, they left home saying that they were going to a hospital in Hunsur. However, they allegedly went to an agricultural field in Basarikatte in Arabithittu Mini Forest area, where they consumed pesticide. The incident came to light following day morning, when some of the villagers who went to agricultural field, found the couple dead.
On the other hand, the couple’s daughter Lalithamma had lodged a missing complaint at Bilikere Police Station. Learning about the couple’s death, Police visited the spot and shifted bodies to Hunsur General Hospital for post-mortem. The bodies were handed over to relatives after post-mortem.
