Elderly man assaulted and murdered; accused arrested

Mysore/Mysuru: An elderly man, who was grazing his flock of sheep, was brutally assaulted resulting in him sustaining serious injuries and was admitted to a hospital where he succumbed to injuries.

The deceased has been identified as Ningegowda (71), a resident of Galigarahundi village in the taluk and the accused is 60-year-old Chandrashekar, a resident of Ittigegud in Mysuru city.

In his death statement, which has been recorded by Mysuru South Police, Ningegowda has stated that on Apr. 23 at about 4.30 pm, when he was tending to his flock, Chandrashekar, who came to the spot, told him not to graze his sheep in his field and picked up a quarrel, abused him (Ningegowda) using foul language, hit him on the leg on the blunt side of a machete and assaulted him with a stick.  The Cops, after recording his statements, have registered a case.

Ningegowda was admitted to a hospital by his son Kumar, where he succumbed to injuries on Saturday evening.

Mysuru South Police, who arrested accused Chandrashekar, have handed him over to                             Judicial Custody.
