Elderly woman conned, loses 60 gm gold jewels

Mysuru: An elderly woman in her seventies was reportedly conned by two strangers and relieved of about 60 gm of gold jewels worn by her.

The incident took place when the victim Jayalakshmi of Agrahara here along with her relative Prathiba, in her fifties, were said to be proceeding to another relative’s house on 7th Cross in Agrahara by walk this morning.

They were reportedly accosted by two strangers who came on a bike. The strangers, conning the gullible victim, said that a posse of Police personnel were on the road checking women wearing heavy jewellery for safety reasons. They even convinced Jayalakshmi to get her jewels wrapped in a piece of paper brought by them.

The unsuspecting Jayalakshmi got her jewels wrapped in the paper which the two strangers promptly put in the bag carried by the elderly lady. After a while when Jayalakshmi opened the bag she was shocked to find fake ornaments wrapped in the paper.

A complaint has been lodged with K.R. Police who are trying to get some clues from CCTV footages nearby.
