An incident of two unidentified women luring a 66-year-old woman with cash and allegedly making away with her 60 gram gold ornaments has been reported from K.R. Hospital premises.

The victim has been identified as Ushamani, a resident of Ramakrishnanagar, who had come to the hospital to see her sister’s husband who was undergoing treatment at the hospital.

It is said that a 30-year-old woman, who met Ushamani near the gate of Jayadeva Hospital at about 5.30 pm on Monday, said that she had found a purse containing cash, offered to share it with Ushamani and took her near the Dhobhi Ghat in the hospital premises and made her to sit with her. Meanwhile, a girl aged about 20 years came to them and alleged that the they had stolen her purse.

Reacting to this, the woman, who had brought Ushamani, removed all her jewellery, packed them into a corner of the saree and swore that she had not stolen the purse. Later, she also asked Ushamani to follow suit, took out Ushamani’s jewels to tie it to her saree pallu and in the process she replaced them with glass bangles, before leaving the scene after paying Rs. 2,000 to Ushamani. The poor Ushamani realised that she had been conned only when she opened the knot of the saree while travelling on a bus to return home.
