Mysuru: Miscreants have stolen the gold mangalya chain of an elderly woman while she was boarding a bus at KSRTC Sub-Urban Bus Stand in city on Oct. 14.
The 78-year-old Lakshmamma of Kelagere village in Nagamangala taluk of Mandya district, is the victim.
On Oct. 10, Lakshmamma, along with her grandson Puneeth had come to her daughter’s house at Ganesh Nagar here for Dasara holidays. On Oct. 14 morning, Lakshmamma and her grandson arrived at the Sub-Urban Bus Stand to catch a bus to their village.
As there was a huge rush for buses plying towards Nagamanga, her grandson somehow managed to wriggle his way into the bus and sat on a seat, besides reserving a seat next, to his grandmother.
Later, Lakshmamma somehow managed to board the bus jostling among the rush and sat next to Puneeth. She then touched her neck only to find her gold mangalya chain weighing 33 grams and worth Rs. 1.65 lakh missing. Not knowing what to do, she informed her family members after reaching home and later lodged a complaint.
Lashkar Police, who have registered a case, have taken steps to trace and nab the miscreants.
Meanwhile, Mysuru City Police have urged bus commuters to be very careful with their valuables while boarding buses during rush.
The Police said that thieves, waiting for such opportunities trail the victims and steal the valuables, before making their way out.
They have urged the commuters not to befriend the strangers and strike conversation with them as they (thieves) make use of the same and steal the valuables.
Chains snatched at Basaveshwara Nagar
Two gold chains weighing 50 grams in total were stolen from an elderly woman, who was on her morning walk at Basaveshwara Nagar in city on Monday.
Anusuya, aged 67, and a resident of 2nd Cross in the locality is that woman. The mangalya chain weighed 40 grams and another gold chain weighed 20 grams. As the elderly woman held on to her gold chain tightly which broke, about 10 grams of gold chain remained with her.
Anusuya was walking towards the 1st Cross at about 7.30 am, when she heard a bike stopping behind her. The pillion rider was standing right in front of her and before she could say anything, he had yanked off her valuables, before fleeing away.
In her complaint, shocked Anusuya has stated that the two chain snatchers were aged between 30 and 35 years and were riding a bike resembling Bajaj Pulsar.
Saraswathipuram Police, who have registered a case, are investigating.
