Elders denounce decision to cancel Dasara Sports for senior citizens

Senior Citizens’ Sakala Seva Kendra Trust District President Lalitha Sharma, Karnataka State Retired Government Employees’ Association  General Secretary B.R. Umakanth, A.V. Jagannath, A.C. Subbaiah, C.R. Anand, G.M. Gopalakrishna and M.P. Chandrashekar are seen submitting a memorandum to Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) T. Yogesh recently.

Mysuru:  The members of Hiriya Nagarikara Sakaala Seva Kendra Trust have taken strong objection to the cancellation of Senior Citizens Dasara Sports Meet this year too.

In a letter addressed to the Deputy Commissioner, a copy of which is also sent to the District Minister G.T. Devegowda, the senior citizens said that the Trust has been fighting the injustice rendered to the members at the Senior Citizens Dasara Sports meet for the past four years and the alleged fraud in hosting the event.

Accusing the Deputy Director (DD) of Women and Child Welfare Department as being responsible for the cancellation of the sports meet, as she had cited poor response, the senior citizens alleged that the DD had failed to the hear their grievances even once after assuming office years ago.

Alleging that the DD spends over Rs. 1 lakh on inviting cine stars to the grand event, while at the same time cancelling the senior citizens sports citing poor response, the members claimed that the cancellation of the event had deprived them of a chance to recall their younger days.

Urging the government to entrust the responsibility of holding Seniors’ Dasara Sports Meet to the Trust and the State Government Retired Employees Association, Saraswathipuram, the elders have demanded the government to keep out the Women and Child Welfare Department and Senior Citizens Empowerment Department from this year’s Dasara events.
