Election to heads of MCC Standing Committees on May 25

Mysore/Mysuru: After being postponed five times, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) is set to elect the Chairpersons of the four Standing Committees on May 25.

The polls to elect the Chairpersons of the MCC’s four Standing Committees — Taxation; Finance and Appeals; Public Health, Education and Social Justice; City Planning, Reforms and Accounts — were supposed to be held last year after Shivakumar of the BJP was elected the Mayor on Sept. 6,

2022. But the polls for electing the Standing Committees Chairpersons did not take off even after notification was issued five times since Shivakumar took over as the Mayor, with the last postponement (5th one) being on Mar. 13, 2023 and the preceding one on Feb. 2. Congress then had staged dharna seeking polls for the election of heads of Standing Committees as it is an important post in the functioning of the MCC. Congress had also alleged that the BJP was intentionally delaying the polls though the members to all the four Standing Committees were appointed on Sept. 9, 2022.

Now the suspense over who will head the Standing Committees seems to have come to an end with the election scheduled to take place on May 25.

Meanwhile, Mayor Shivakumar said that the MCC’s 2023-24 Budget would be presented within 15 days of the election of Chairpersons of the four Standing Committees.
