Enforce lane discipline on Outer Ring Road

August 14, 2024

Sir,

This refers to the news item titled ‘Speed Limits Set on Outer Ring Road’ published in Star of Mysore dated Aug. 11, 2024.

The Police authorities have specified speed limits in four categories, ranging from 20 kmph to 60 kmph. To ensure compliance, lane discipline is paramount. Currently, all classes of vehicles use all lanes, leading to chaotic driving conditions.

Two-wheelers, autos and tractors must be restricted to the extreme left lane while the middle lane should be designated for heavy vehicles and the right lane reserved for cars.

This lane discipline must be strictly enforced by installing as many AI cameras as possible to monitor and penalise errant drivers. Without this enforcement, the new speed limits will be meaningless and will not serve their intended purpose.
