‘Ensure safe workplace, provide immediate first-aid’

SP Amit Singh inaugurates first-aid training for Industry Supervisors

Mysuru: Nanjangud Industries Association (NIA) along with the Department of Factories and Boilers, Industrial Safety and Health, Government of Karnataka, had organised the  60th one-day training programme on first-aid for workers and supervisors from industry and service sector on Tuesday last at Hotel Shree Guru Residency on JLB Road, Mysuru.

Amit Singh, IPS,  Superintendent of Police (SP), Mysuru District, in his inaugural address called upon workers to avoid injuries at workplace and to ensure no accidents at workplace. However knowledge of first-aid is essential to save the lives of others both at workplace and outside.

‘Industrial workers should be fully aware of golden hour of accident relief. An employee need not be fully aware of medical subject but he / she can save a precious life of co-employee, not by waiting for the ambulance to come and take the patient, but take immediate action by administering first-aid,’ he observed.

Every employee in the industry should know the basics of first- aid and preventive measures to avoid any unsafe act or conditions.

Timely support will enable the worker to get back to work quickly without any disablement and be a contributor to the organisation, the SP said and appreciated the efforts of NIA in propagating the knowledge on first-aid at workplace for workers and supervisors working in industries and establishments.  

H. Suresh, Assistant Director of Factories, Industrial Safety and Health, Mysuru Division, who also spoke, highlighted some basic  essentials to make workplace a safe place to work.

Various industries and establishments based in Mysuru and Chamarajanagar  deputed over 70 workers and supervisors for the programme. Dr. B. Prakash, expert in first-aid  from St. John’s Ambulance Association, conducted the programme through lecture, discussion, demonstration and case studies.  

M.S. Ramaprasad, President of Nanjangud Industries Association, welcomed and called upon the industrial employees to make their workplace clean and safe.

B.S. Chandrashekar, Secretary, NIA, introduced the chief guest, medical expert and Ravichandra Bekal, Advisor to Industries Association, to the participants. G. Ravindran, Manager, NIA, proposed a vote of thanks.
