Entry of tourists to Dubare Elephant Camp restricted

April 9, 2019

Kushalnagar: As an elephant housed at Dubare Elephant Camp near Nanjarayapatna is in musth resulting in tension in the camp, the entry of tourists into the camp has been restricted.

Dubare Camp Forest Officer Ranjan said that apart from the elephant in the camp, most elephants at Dubare Forest are also in musth resulting in them entering the camp and causing problems. Also, the elephants in the camp are tied and are not being allowed to venture into the forest. They are being provided regular food but the Mahouts and Kavadis are unable to go near them as before and the elephants are very dangerous during musth, the Forest Officer said.

As a precautionary measure, the entry of tourists into the camp is restricted for now, Forest Officials said and added that tourists will be allowed into the camp after the elephants come to normal stage.
