Virajpet: In a tragic incident, an Ex-serviceman fatally shot a 23-year-old farm worker in Chambebellur village of Virajpet taluk last evening.

The victim, identified as Paniyaravara Ponnu, worked as a worker on a coffee plantation and resided in the plantation’s line house.

The incident occurred around 5 pm when Ponnu ventured near a jackfruit tree on the property of Chinnappa, an Ex-serviceman.

Suspecting Ponnu of attempting to steal jackfruits, Chinnappa shot him with a firearm. Ponnu succumbed to the gunshot wound immediately.

After shooting Ponnu, Chinnappa surrendered to the Police.

The Virajpet Rural Police have registered a case in this regard based on a complaint filed by Ponnu’s father and have launched an investigation into the incident.
