Mysuru: Hundreds of ex-servicemen under the banner of Federation of Mysuru District Ex-Servicemen Associations, took out a mega Vijay Diwas bike rally in city this morning, marking the 27th anniversary of the success of Operation Vijay which led to India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1999 Kargil war.
MLC C.N. Manjegowda, MLAs K. Harish Gowda and T.S. Srivatsa, former MLA M.K. Somashekar and former MUDA Chairman H.V. Rajeev flagged off the rally at Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa Circle (Hotel Metropole Circle) on JLB Road.
The rally passed through Dasappa Circle, Railway Station Circle (Dr. Babu Jagjivanram Circle), Irwin Road, Ashoka Road Jayachamarajendra Circle (Hardinge Circle), B.N. Road and Chamaraja Double Road before culminating at Chikkamma Niketana Kalyana Mantapa in Kuvempunagar, where the stage programme will be held later in the day.
The rallyists rode through the rally route with their two-wheelers tied with the Tri-colour national flag and raised slogans such as ‘Amar Rahe, Amar Rahe…’ in honour of the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during ‘Operation Vijay’ and in commemoration of India’s decisive victory against Pakistan in the 1999 Kargil war, while the guests who flagged off the rally, followed them in an open top vehicle.
Mysuru Ex-servicemen Association President K.P. Diwakar, Mysuru CAR (Central Armed Reserve) Personnel Association President P.K. Biddappa, Rotary Club of Mysuru Heritage President R.N. Shivakumar, S.Nataraj, Rajesh and others were present.
