Mysuru: Former KSOU Vice-Chancellor Prof. N.S. Ramegowda has called for a survey to find out the quantum of success of schemes, programmes and initiatives launched by the Governments for rural development.
He was speaking at the valedictory of the two-day National seminar on ‘Science and Technology-Rural Development’ which was organised by Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) at Manasagangothri here on Friday.
Pointing out that Gram Panchayats, Taluk Panchayats and Zilla Panchayats have been working for rural development spending crores of rupees, Prof. Ramegowda wondered whether a survey has been carried out to know the quantum of success of all the initiatives.
Observing that no outstanding development can be seen in rural areas despite village adoption by Legislators and Parliamentarians and funding by corporates under Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, he stressed on the need for carrying out a survey to know how far the NSS Units of over forty thousand colleges coming under nearly nine hundred Universities in the country have succeeded in their rural activities.
P.R. Bhosale and S.V. Raghavendra who topped in oral demonstration and H.G. Vindhya and Sumalatha who topped in poster presentation, were distributed prizes on the occasion.
ISCA General President Prof. K.S. Rangappa, University of Mysore Registrar Prof. Shivappa, Prof. Gangadhar, Dr. S. Kumaraswamy and others were present.
