Exclusive Fever Centre at ED Hospital by July 2nd week

Mysuru: An exclusive Fever Centre at the Epidemic Diseases (ED) Hospital premises on KRS Road here will be functional by second week of July.

The Centre is being established by District Surgeon Dr. M. Pashupathi and District Vector-borne Diseases Control Officer Dr. S. Chidambara with the help of District Health Officer (DHO) Dr. B. Basavaraju to handle cases such as Dengue, Malaria, Typhoid, Viral Fever and Chikungunya cases. Dr. Pashupathi told SOM that the Fever Centre was being established to put brakes on private hospitals, which are creating panic among patients and fleecing them, besides prolonging the treatment.

He said that the new Centre would be a boon for the poor and economically weaker sections as we can begin treatment immediately after getting the detailed report without making the patients to wait for days.

Dr. Pashupathi said that a 24×7 laboratory facility with three technicians, staff nurse and three doctors would be made available in the exclusive  50-bed Centre. At present, the blood test for Dengue was being tested only at the lab in the District Health and Family Welfare Department premises in Nazarbad, he said and added that with different types of fevers being reported in city, the new Fever Centre would be of much help.

Engineers from the Karnataka Health System Development Project had conducted an inspection at ED Hospital recently and the Fever Centre would start functioning from the second week of July, Dr. Pashupathi said.
