Experts and civic leaders to deliberate on Greater Mysuru

Mysore/Mysuru: A major public dialogue titled ‘Greater Mysuru or Greater Vision: What Does the City Truly Need?’ will be held on Dec. 14 from 10 am to 12 noon at Rani Bahadur Auditorium in Manasagangothri campus.

Organised by well-known neurologist Dr. Shushrutha Gowda on behalf of V.R. Trust, the event seeks to strengthen civic awareness, encourage meaningful public participation and contribute to a sustainable long-term urban vision for Mysuru at a time when the city is grappling with rapid expansion and growing infrastructural demands.

Experts, administrators and citizens are expected to engage in a wide-ranging discussion on Mysuru’s long-term development needs, including urban expansion, infrastructure capacity, mobility systems, environmental sustainability and city’s preparedness for future growth. The interaction aims to assess whether Mysuru requires territorial enlargement under the ‘Greater Mysuru’ concept or a holistic, vision-driven planning approach to address emerging challenges.

Objective: The core objective of this urban dialogue is to stimulate informed public discourse on Mysuru’s development priorities and generate clarity on city’s future planning framework.

The session will focus on how an integrated, sustainable and citizen-inclusive approach can guide Mysuru’s infrastructure development, public service delivery, transportation planning and economic potential in the coming decade. The interaction intends to produce insights that support a coherent and forward-looking development blueprint for the city.

Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Wadiyar, Hunsur MLA G.D. Harish Gowda, University of Mysore Vice-Chancellor Prof. N.K. Lokanath, former Chief Secretary to the Government of Karnataka A. Ravindra, actor and social activist Prakash Belawadi, economist Prof. (retd.) K.C. Basavaraj and N. Ranga Rao & Sons Director Kiran Ranga will participate in the dialogue and offer their perspectives on Mysuru’s development trajectory.

The programme will begin with a welcome address by Dr. Anthony Paulraj of Chayadevi College of Education, Mysuru, followed by introductory remarks by Dr. Shushrutha Gowda, Director of Neurozone, V.R. Trust and Gopala Gowda Hospital, Mysuru. The event will be moderated by  journalist Shyam Sundar Vattam.

The deliberations will centre on core urban issues, including planning, transportation, public services, infrastructure expansion, economic resilience and enhanced citizen involvement.
