Extend free education till PUC under RTE

Mysore/Mysuru: Parents have urged the State Government to extend free education to children till PUC under the Right To Education (RTE) Act.

At present, the Government is providing free education to children from LKG to 8th standard or from 1st to 10th standard for State and ICSE (Indian Certificate of Secondary Education) syllabus for eligible students.

Students studying in the State syllabus have the option to continue their education in the same school or can opt to study in other schools. But ICSE students have no option. Hence, the Government should provide free education till SSLC and PUC to ICSE students also,                                                                 parents demanded.

“If the Government doesn’t permit ICSE syllabus students to continue in the same school, parents will have to pay exorbitant fees to continue the education of their children at other schools, which many us cannot afford. Hence, if the Government pays the annual fees of Rs. 18,000 to children under RTE, it will help thousands of students,” said parents in their memorandum submitted to MLAs T.S. Srivatsa and G.T. Devegowda.

Both the MLAs have assured the parents that they will discuss the issue in the coming Winter Session of the State Legislative Assembly.
