Extortionists held: Police recover mobile phones, cash

Mysuru: Mandi Police on Apr.14, have arrested two extortionists on charges of assaulting a person on Apr.8 and making away with Rs.1,400 cash and mobile phone besides making him withdraw cash from an ATM and fleeing with the ATM card.

The arrested have been identified as 21-year-old Praveen Kumar, a native of Chikka Kavalande in Nanjangud taluk, presently residing in Belavatha village in city and 24-year-old Prasanna, a resident of Rajuru village in Nanjangud taluk.

The Mandi Police picked up the two accused during an operation near District TB Control Society on Benki Nawab Street in city and subjected them to interrogation, during which the accused are said to have confessed of committing the crime at various places.

Based on the information provided by the accused, the  Police have recovered four mobile phones worth about Rs.21,000, Rs. 1,000 cash and the ATM card.

The Cops have also launched a hunt to nab two more persons pertaining to the case.

DCP Mahaninga B. Nandaganvi and N.R. Sub-Division ACP Gopal supervised Mandi Inspector B. Basavaraju and staff Jayakumar, Iliyas, Jayapala, Ravi Gowda and Shankar in the nabbing and recovery operation.
