NAAC delegation to visit Gangothri soon: VC
Mysore/Mysuru: The century-old University of Mysore is getting a facelift and certain buildings inside the campus have got a new look with aluminium cladding. The grey-coloured panels are extremely durable and can last up to 30 years. The University has spent Rs. 1.20 crore for the first phase of the works.
Sources from the University said that the exteriors of the buildings now look majestic and the design was adopted to give a classy-look to the buildings in an effort to compete with other Private Universities.
Ranked among the premier Government-run higher educational institutions, the University of Mysore does not want to lag behind when it comes to the beauty of the campus.
The grey aluminium cladding panels on buildings amidst lush greenery are giving a world-class touch to the University. Authorities have planned to beautify all the buildings inside the campus and the work will be done in phases. Some of the buildings inside Manasagangothri desperately need a fresh coat of paint and this cladding work eliminates the necessity of paint and is a cost-saver for the University.
They are called Aluminium Composite Panels and are light in weight, are corrosion resistant, require less maintenance, have excellent shine and are high on durability. Some of the features of the panels cladded on the buildings are sleek design, rust-proof finish, weather proof and maintenance-free, said Varsity sources.
In the first phase of the works, four buildings near the entrance from Bogadi side — from Kuvempu Statue Gate — have got aluminium cladding panels and the works have reached final stage. In the coming days four more buildings will receive a facelift. Not only the walls have been cladded with new panels but also the windows and doors have got the same border, enhancing the looks.
The buildings that are sporting a new look are Humanities Block, Commerce Block, Mathematics Block and the Library Block. In the coming days, other buildings too will get cladded with these aluminium panels.
Every day hundreds of academics from outside the University visit Manasagangothri and they include foreign delegates, academics and research scholars of national and international repute.
NAAC visit: “Every time they visit, it is not possible for the University to paint the campus. We are expecting a visit by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) very soon and this is the reason why we have taken up the cladding works,” University of Mysore Vice-Chancellor Prof G. Hemantha Kumar told Star of Mysore.
A high NAAC ranking is among the key criteria for attracting funds for research projects and new schemes of the University Grants Commission (UGC) for the University, he added.
