‘Facing’ problems: Poll Officer issues showcause notice to teacher instead of party worker as they looked alike

November 29, 2019

Mandya: In what appears to be a case of mistaken identity, the K.R.Pet bypoll Electoral Officer issued a showcause notice to a Government school teacher, a look alike of a JD(S) worker, for campaigning on behalf of the JD(S) candidate.

As per rules, Government servants are not supposed to take part in any electoral campaigns.

Electoral Officer H.K. Krishnamurthy  issued showcause notice to Tendekere Government Primary School teacher Danasundar on Thursday, for campaigning which came as a shock to the teacher.

It has been reported that Thimmegowda, a JD(S) party worker, was campaigning for JD(S) candidate B.L. Devaraj, along with former Minister H.D. Revanna, the video clippings of which were telecast in the media.

Electoral Officer Krishnamurthy, after watching the video clippings on TV, mistook Thimmegowda for the Government Primary School teacher  Danasundar and issued a notice to him, seeking an explanation within 24 hours.

The shocked teacher, Danasundar, after realising the goof-up by Electoral Officer Krishnamurthy, traced his look alike Thimmegowda and requested him to go along with him to the Electoral Officer’s Office, to which Thimmegowda readily obliged.

The teacher then presented the JD(S) party worker before Poll Officer Krishnamurthy to prove to him that he had not broken any rules and that the Officer had unnecessarily issued a notice.
