Faculty Conclave held at NIE to foster Learner Centric Pedagogies

July 9, 2023

Mysore/Mysuru: The National Institute of Engineering (NIE), Mysuru, committed to providing quality education, has implemented cutting-edge teaching-learning methodologies to enhance the learning experience and prepare students for the challenges of the engineering industry. Recognising the evolving demands of the engineering practice, NIE embraced a progressive approach to teaching-learning that goes beyond traditional classroom lectures.

These innovative approaches are aimed to nurture critical thinking, practical skills and creativity among aspiring engineers.

By incorporating these methodologies, the Institute has fostered an engaging and interactive learning environment all the time in the classrooms, enabling students to develop a strong foundation of theoretical knowledge while also honing their practical skills. The backbones in an educational system are its teachers. The role of teachers in classroom at NIE has shifted from monologue teaching to facilitating.

One of the key aspects of NIE’s teaching-learning methodologies is the emphasis on hands-on learning experiences. The Institute has established state-of-the-art laboratories equipped with latest technologies, allowing students to apply theoretical concepts to real-world scenarios. Through practical experiments, projects and internships, students gain invaluable insights into the practical aspects of engineering and develop problem-solving skills that are essential for their future careers.

Over the last year, faculty across engineering disciplines collaborated and tweaked their teaching-learning strategies from traditional lecture-based scenarios to involving students in the learning process. The faculty members acted as mentors, guiding students through their academic journey and offering individualised support when needed. This approach promoted open communication, encouraged collaborative learning and fostered a sense of belonging within the student community. Students feedback taken at regular intervals has been extremely positive and they have started to feel the difference that enables them to learn better.
