Fake site papers: Couple swindles bank of Rs. 58 lakh

Mysuru: A couple has been booked by Saraswathipuram Police on charges of cheating a bank by securing a loan of several lakhs of rupees, by pledging the forged documents of a site owned by MUDA.

Balu and Shilpa, residents of Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) Colony Complex, Kuvempunagar in city, are the couple, who have been booked on the basis of a complaint lodged by the Manager of Karnataka Bank, Ramanuja Road Branch.

The couple had secured a loan of Rs. 82.22 lakh by pledging the papers of a site at Rajarajeshwari Nagar in Bogadi. Of the sanctioned loan amount, Rs. 60.55 lakh had been credited to their account. But, they had failed to repay the loan on time.

When the bank officers went for a spot inspection of the site, a board installed by MUDA claiming ownership of the site was found. The bank officials verified the documents available with MUDA, only to find that the couple had forged the documents related to Site No. 1C in Survey No. 268/4. They had pledged site papers as a collateral and had failed to repay the loan of Rs. 58.46 lakh, reads the complaint.

It is a second such case in a span of one week, as another couple had cheated Karnataka Bank, Saraswathipuram Branch, of Rs. 26 lakh. The accused are  Meenakshi and Ganesh Babu and a case has been registered against them at Kuvempunagar Police Station. Interestingly, in this case too, the couple had forged documents of a site that actually doesn’t exist in Rajarajeshwarinagar near Bogadi, with the ulterior motive of taking the bank authorities for a ride.
