Periyapatna: A woman and her daughter has committed suicide by jumping into Harangi Canal near Attigudu village in the taluk on Nov. 14.
The deceased are said to have taken the extreme step following a fight in the family the previous night. The deceased are Lakshmi (40), wife of Sannegowda of Kalaganahalli Doddakoppal village and Ashwini (16).
Lakshmi, a native of Kalammanna Koppal in K.R. Nagar taluk had married Sannegowda of Kalaganahalli and was staying with him. On Nov. 13 a fight took place between them over family matters and depressed over this, Lakshmi along with her daughter Ashwini, who left the house on Nov. 14 at about 9.55 am, came to Harangi Canal, kept the purse, bag and slippers on the banks on the canal and jumped into it.
While the body of Lakshmi was found on Nov. 15, the body of Ashwini was traced on Nov. 16 in the canal near T. Guruvaiahna Koppal about 10 kms away from the spot from where she had jumped into the canal. Post-mortem was conducted at MMC&RI in Mysuru and the bodies were handed over to the family members, following which the last rites were held.
Based on the complaint from Swamygowda, brother of deceased Lakshmi, the Police have registered a case against five persons and have launched a hunt to nab them.
