Srirangapatna: Depressed over family issues, a 32-year-old woman, pushed her 3-year-old daughter into the river near Gosai Ghat in Srirangapatna and later committed suicide by jumping into the river.
The deceased are Bhargavi and her daughter Deeksha, residents of Lakshmisagar village in the taluk.
A native of Devegowdanakoppal village in Srirangapatna taluk, Bhargavi had married Pradeep Kumar of Lakshmisagar village about four years ago and were residing at Hootagalli in Mysuru.
It is learnt the frequent fights used to take place between the couple and depressed over this, Bhargavi, who took her daughter Deeksha to Gosai Ghat on Friday evening, kept her mobile phone and footwear on the river banks, pushed her daughter into the river and later jumped into the river as well.
Local villagers, who saw the bodies floating in the river yesterday morning, informed Srirangapatna Town Police, who rushed to the spot along with the Fire and Emergency Services personnel and fished out the bodies. The Police, later shifted the bodies to Srirangapatna Government Hospital mortuary, where post-mortem was conducted and the bodies were handed over to the family members. Town Police, who have registered a case, are investigating.
