Mandya:  In an unusual incident, a family of three have attempted suicide and also videographed the incident alleging that they were being harassed by close associates of former JD(S) MLA M. Srinivas.

The incident is said to have occurred near Srinivasapura Gate on the outskirts of the town on Tuesday.

Ratan Gowda, 35 and his parents Ravi Kumar and Vijayamma, who attempted suicide by consuming poison, were rushed to a hospital in Mysuru.

In the video footage, Ratan Gowda claimed that he was upset with the harassment and behaviour of his wife and got married to another woman. He further alleged that supporters of Srinivas at the instructions of his first wife had assaulted him near his house.

However, Srinivas, an aspiring candidate from Mandya Assembly constituency, has denied the allegations made by Gowda.

Speaking to press persons yesterday, Srinivas dubbed the whole issue as a conspiracy to tarnish his image and stature. He added that many cases against Ratan Gowda based on complaints of Ratan’s first wife were pending in the Police Station.

Mandya Rural Police have registered the case.
